Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Deep Hole Drilling Machinist to set up, operate, and maintain deep-hole drilling machines to produce precision-engineered components. The successful candidate will be responsible for machining high-accuracy holes to specified dimensions and tolerances while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and production requirements. Deep-hole drilling commonly involves gun drilling, BTA drilling, or related precision machining processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate deep-hole drilling machines, gun drills, and related machining equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions.
- Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, cutting tools, and machine accessories.
- Adjust machining parameters including spindle speed, feed rate, coolant flow, and cutting depth.
- Monitor machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
- Ensure drilled components meet drawing specifications, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, tool wear, machine malfunctions, and drilling deviations.
- Conduct routine machine maintenance and maintain good housekeeping standards.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures, quality standards, and production schedules.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to achieve operational targets.
Requirements
- Minimum 2–5 years of machining experience, preferably in deep-hole drilling, gun drilling, CNC machining, boring, or honing operations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
- Knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, tooling setup, and precision measurement techniques.
- Experience working with tight tolerances and high-precision components.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and inspection documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work shifts and overtime when required.
